My reflection of the Internet for English Teaching
After I read this article, I agree that the Internet is very powerful and effective tool in the language classroom. The Internet is as an unlimited resource in teaching and learning English. We should learn how to use it effectively.
The article states our learning goal is not only learning English, but also we should have 5 learning goals. They are active creative mastery, autonomous learning, collaborative learning, cross-cultural learning and critical learning. I agree today’s Internet connects the global.
Few years ago, I was interested about homepages so I designed my personal homepages. One day, I received one e-mail from Germany. He explained that why he sent a e-mail to me. He said he had one friend was the same name of me. He typed the name of “Fanny” in search engine and it showed my homepage. Then, he sent e-mail to me and we communicated for several months. We used English for communication. We share our cultural, political and economic context, etc. It was very interesting.
I understand the importance of dual immersion. If we do not have some knowledge of technology skills and learning language skills, we will not learn English effectively and efficiently.
I had experienced on how to “make waves” on Internet. Few years ago, I sometimes read on-line Chinese news and write my views, opinions on discussion forum in order to express my feeling and to communication with other readers.
I think it is time to make a plan how to utility our resource and how to motivate our students to use new technology on learning English. For example, we ask students to open e-mail account, discuss on forum and do some interactive on-line English exercises. We may share our experiences of learning new technology in English learning with students. My own experience to create homepages was good. I worked independence, creativity, high motivation, commitment to complete my homepages.
I am happy to read this article. It shows the successes of others by using the resources of new technology in teaching and learning English.
