Today, I feel very excited and happy. I have succeeded to make the Venice of the East movie. I have put it into the Fanny folder of CityU's e-Portal. Honestly, I enjoyed the lesson of New Technologies in Language Teaching on 27 March, 2008. Now, I know how to make a movie.

Week 10: Learner Autonomy and Tandem Learning: Putting Principles Into Practice in Synchronous and Asynchronous Telecommunications Environments
My Reflection
I agree both motivation and a rich authentic learning environment are very important for learners to become more autonomous. I think no form of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is perfect. Any form of CMC has its advantages and disadvantages. I also think both pedagogy and a computer-supported medium are important to learners.
As the author said there were a lot of problems in tandem learning, I think good communication and discussion between two learners are very important. Both learners should contribute themselves and help each other. They may try to solve their problems. Also teachers may help them or give advice to them. If learners want to learn second language, it is good to join the tandem learning than do nothing.
Lastly, I also agree a three-part structure of pressures, affordances, and potentials of media as a useful model for the evaluation of CMC tools and pedagogies and as a framework in defining the role of the teacher in CMC projects based on learner autonomy.

Week 9: Practical Considerations for Multimedia Courseware Development: An EFL IVD Experience
My reflection
This paper states the details of interactive videodisc (IVD) courseware such as the objective setting, instructional design, and on-line implementation, etc. I think it is very good that IVD can provide rich and authentic target language (TL) input such as nonverbal vocal and nonverbal visual items. Since IVD can provide a vivid scenario, it is really arouse learners’ interest and one of the most effective way to learn English.
It is a good idea that this IVD consists four units: an Introduction, Hyperscript, Film Viewing, and Film Viewing with Instruction. Though this IVD provided a highly motivating and successful language learning experience for learners, its development involved a great many human resources and time consuming. It means the cost of its development was very great. I suggest if the benefit of the IVD is greater than the cost, it may be proceeded. Otherwise, it may be not proceeded.

Week 8 : Hong Kong’s amended Copyright Law
My reflection:
“Fair dealing”
Teachers always copy some books, newspaper or on-line resources for teaching and learning purposes. I agree that the dealing with a copyright work is “fair” if the dealing is for non profit-making purpose, not for a commercial nature.
I know students copy the whole or a large portion of a textbook would not be considered “fair”. The point is that the textbooks are too expensive in Hong Kong. That is why some students or some teachers or some people go to Shenzhen’s book shops and buy textbooks or books. For example, a book is about HK$200 to HK$300 in Hong Kong but it is about 10RMB-20RMB in China, though the quality of paper is better in Hong Kong than in China. If the publishing company of Hong Kong would reduce the price of textbooks or books, it may attract people to buy them in Hong Kong.
I know most schools have already entered into licence agreements with the Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Licensing Society (HKRRLS). It means if teachers copy the whole of large portion of past paper of HKCEE to students, it is illegal. In reality, some students are poor and they do not have money to buy past papers of HKCEE. Teachers are difficult to make decision to copy the whole or large portion or small portion of past papers for their students.
Learning Management Systems
I think each learning method has its advantages and its disadvantages. Though Learning Management Systems (LMS) have some drawbacks, we cannot deny LMS have lots of benefits to learners. Today, there are lots of inform learnings such as discussion forum, blog, blackboard, e-mail, on-line learning, etc. They are good for our life-long learning. `
